1. This depends on which version of EzeScan Desktop software you are using:

   EzeScan Desktop V5.0 and higher 

       Yes - The 64 bit version of EzeScan Desktop v 5.0 supports only 64 bit TWAIN drivers

       No -  The 32 bit version of EzeScan Desktop v 5.0 supports only 32 bit TWAIN drivers

   EzeScan Desktop v4.3 (Now superseded)

       No - EzeScan Desktop v4.3 is available as 32 bit only. It only supports using 32 bit TWAIN drivers.

2. The second consideration is how old your scanner is?

      As a rough guide:

      Scanner models introduced new to the market before 2013 are likely to only include 32 bit TWAIN drivers.  They only work with 32 bit versions of Windows Apps. download options are restricted to 32 bit scanner drivers only.

      Scanner models introduced new to the market between 2014 and 2018 will most likely include 32 bit TWAIN drivers  as default but some may optionally provide 64 bit TWAIN drivers.

      Scanner models introduced new to the market from 2019 to now will most likely include 32 bit TWAIN drivers and 64 bit TWAIN drivers

3. There is one other big gotcha here.

For some older models made, Scanner vendors are providing scanner drivers that seem to be advertised as supporting 32 bit and 64 bit. This often relates to the underlying Windows OS, not whether it is using a TWAIN 32 or TWAIN 64 bit driver to communicate between the scanning software and the scanner.  The key thing to remember is that a 64 Bit version windows scanning application requires a TWAIN 64 Bit driver.

The Canon DR-G1100/1130 scanners don't work with a 64 bit version of a scanning application. These CANON scanner drivers are able to be installed on 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows OS, but the scanner driver code is expecting to be called only from a 32 bit windows app only. If you try and use a 64 bit version of a windows app to access the scanner it will never find the scanner. However the newer Canon scanner models like the DR-G2110/2140 do come with TWAIN 64 bit driver support, and will work properly with 64 bit windows scanning application like EzeScan 64 Bit version.

The Kodaki3200/i3400/i4200/i4600/5200/5600/5800 scanners don't work with a 64 bit version of a scanning application either. These Kodak scanner drivers are able to be installed on 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows OS, but the scanner driver code is expecting to be called only from a 32 bit windows app only. If you try and use a 64 bit of a windows app to access the scanner it will never find the scanner. However the newer Kodak scanner models like the i3x50, I4X50,,i5x50 do come with TWAIN 64 bit driver. support, and will work properly with a 64 bit windows scanning application like EzeScan 64 Bit version.

Fujitsu did release updated TWAIN 64 drivers for some of it's older scanners like the fi-6X70, fi-7X60 and fi-6800 ranges of scanners. So those scanners will work with a 64 bit scanning application like EzeScan 64 bit version. The newer range of high end production scanners from Fujitsu that use Paperstream IP TWAIN drivers now all include TWAIN 64 bit support and will work properly with a 64 bit windows scanning application like EzeScan 64 Bit version.

The TWAIN drivers for older scanner will never be retrofitted with TWAIN 64 bit drivers by a scanner manufacturer. It's unreasonable to expect them to do that on scanner models that have been made 'End of life'.

4. Still not sure if your scanner driver comes with a TWAIN 64 bit driver?

Luckily, we've worked out some quick and easy ways to verify if the scanner vendors 64 bit installer package is actually installing a TWAIN 64 bit driver onto your computer.

    a. The simplest way is to check if a 64 bit TWAIN driver file was added by the Scanner manufactures software installer into the c:\windows\twain_64 directory. There has to a be driver file for that model or series of scanner located in this directory for it to work with any 64 bit version of scanning software (like the 64 bit version of EzeScan Desktop V5.0). If there is no driver file for the scanner in the c:\windows\twain_64 directory then the scanner will not appear in 64 bit version of EzeScan Desktop v5.0 when you browse TWAIN Sources for available scanners.

b. Google search on-line for a download link for the TWAIN org's twack64 bit test application. Find a download link that you trust, download and install the program and run it. Then use the Twack64 app's 'Select Scanner' option to browse a list of installed 64 bit TWAIN scanner drivers. If you can see your scanner model/series in the list of available TWAIN Sources, then you know that  the Scanner Manufacturer's software installer has supplied and installed 64 bit TWAIN drivers. The scanner should now also be browse-able as a TWAIN Source in the 64 bit  version of EzeScan Desktop v5.0.

c. If your scanner does not show up in Twack64 list of available 64 bit TWAIN scanner sources then the either you've installed the wrong TWAIN driver installer package from the Scanner vendor website, or the scanner was never released with real 64 bit TWAIN driver support. Scanner manufacturers of old scanners that are not providing 64 bit TWAIN drivers by now, will not provide a new driver update to support 64 bit TWAIN. So realistically you have will have 2 options:

    1. Use your old scanner with a 32 bit scanning application that will use the 32 bit TWAIN drivers. You could then use your licensed copy of the 32 bit version of EzeScan Desktop v5.0 to work with the scanners 32 bit TWAIN driver. You can run the 32 bit version of EzeScan 5.0 desktop software on either the 32  Bit or 64 Bit version of Windows OS.

    2. Upgrade your scanner to a model that includes TWAIN 64 bit drivers. You could then use your licensed copy of the 64 bit version of EzeScan Desktop v5.0 to work with the scanners 64 bit TWAIN driver. Obviously this requires the PC to be running the 64 bit version of Windows OS.
