70. How can I make colour scanning run faster?

Black & White images are usually much smaller than colour images.

For example if you scan an A4 page containing text (no graphics) in B&W at 200 DPI the resulting TIF Image would be around 30KB in size. That same page scanner in colour and saved as a TIG image with JPG compression would be around 330KB in size. That same page scanner in colour and saved as a TIG image with LZWcompression would be around 1000KB in size. That same page scanner in colour and saved as a TIG image with no compression would be around 11,000KB in size.

The following suggestions will help to speed up colour scanning.

1. Use the smallest scanning resolution wherever possible. Use 200 DPI instead of 300 DPI and your images will be approximately 1/2 the size. Smaller colour images are processed faster, and create smaller output files.
2. Untick 'Display Scanned Images For QA' on the F6 Job Admin form, Scanner tab. Displaying colour images during QA will slow the scanning process down.
3. If the documents are single sided, then turn off duplex scanning. No point is scanning both sides if you don't need to. Deleting blank pages takes longer when working with large colour images.
4. Use limited or no enhancement options on the F6 Job Admin form, Enhancement tab. When working with large colour images every enhancement step takes more time.
5. Use document scanning rather than batch scanning. Untick the 'Use Batch Profiling' option on the F6 Job Admin form. If you are just scaning single documents, there is no need to add the overhead of having Ezescan search for separator pages. This searching takes longer with colour images.
